LAWRENCEVILLE – The Brunswick County Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing on Ordinance Amendment Case #22-029 – Proposed Amendment to the Brunswick County Zoning Ordinance; Article 23. Solar Facilities. The hearing will be held Wednesday, March 15, at 7:30 p.m. at the Brunswick County Government Building, 228 North Main Street.

George E. Morrison, III, Director of Planning, said the Ordinance Amendment as proposed for Article 23.Solar Facilities would provide more precise language and clarify the land consideration for maximum total acreage of land in Brunswick County. The primary change was to revise Section 23 406(b) to clarify that the 8,600 acre cap on solar development relates to the area under PV panel coverage, as opposed to the total acreage of the parcel that is the subject of the Conditional Use Permit.

Morrison said the Brunswick County Planning Commission conducted a public hearing on this request at the Jan. 10, 2023 meeting and one person voted against the issue. At the conclusion of the public hearing, the Planning Commission voted to recommend approval of the ordinance amendment Case #22-029 to the Board of Supervisors and request the Board to schedule a public hearing.
