The Littleton Police Department added a part-time officer to its staff this week.

The addition of Ray Tripp, also of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Department, was announced Tuesday.

Since the move is considered a “lateral transfer,” Tripp will require less training and be able to start a few weeks of training, according to Littleton Police Chief Phillip Trivette.

“(Trivette) wants to build the pool up of part-time staff,” acting Police Commissioner D. Lynn Moseley said, “so in case of a large event, we’ll have enough people to help cover it but also to have a pool of people so that when him (or other officers) take off, we can find somebody available to work so we don’t get lacking coverage.”

“Tell him welcome to the team,” Mayor K. Owen Scott said in the Littleton board meeting, “and get us one step closer to some tighter coverage. Thanks, Chief.”
