Currently, I am reading “The Girls of Summer” by Nancy Thayer, because summer wouldn’t be summer without her on the reading list.
She once again visits Nantucket, the setting for most of her summer stories, and brings us the story of single-mom Lisa Hawley.
Lisa has been quite happy living the single life after a brutal divorce. The years have been happy for her as she has raised her two children, Theo and Juliet, to adulthood.
Lisa owns a thriving and popular boutique on Nantucket, and in an effort to keep up with needed repairs, Lisa calls in handy man Mack to help. Will Lisa find that her heart is ready to open up again?
Juliet and Theo fear that Mack will break Lisa’s heart and they fear her being hurt again. They want to protect their mother, and finding themselves back on Nantucket for the summer, they hope to keep her from the hurt of another broken heart. But, while trying to protect their mother, will they face heart choices of their own?
When she returns home to Nantucket, Juliet meets handsome entrepreneur Ryder and feels immediate attraction. However, she has a history of romantic failures, and fears taking that chance again.
Theo comes home to heal from a surfing injury and soon is drawn to Beth, who just so happens to be Mack’s daughter. Theo and Beth went to high school together and are bound by an incident that is not easily forgotten. Can they get past this and move forward?
There are lots of things happening on Nantucket Island for the Hawley family this summer. Will they all have a happily ever after? We will have to read “The Girls of Summer” to find out!
It’s summertime and the reading is easy. We do hope that you’re enjoying some good reading this summer and we hope to see you soon!
