James Judson Kearney, Jr., 92, died on Thursday, August 27, 2020 at Vidant North. He was a native of Wake County born to the late James J. Kearney, Sr. and Aurelia Jordan Kearney. James was also preceded in death by two sisters, Frances Kearney Harris of Littleton and Dorothy Kearney Bradley of Halifax.
Mr. Kearney proudly served our country in the US Navy where he was in 3 battle campaigns in the Philippines during WWII. He was a logger and was formerly employed by Newsome Motor Works and the Halifax County ABC Board.
James was a longtime member of the Littleton Baptist Church where he sung in the choir. He was also a former member of the Littleton Lions Club, and active member of the American Legion Horace Palmer Post and the 40 & 8 Honor Society of American Veterans. He loved playing Golf and was a former Commissioner for the Town of Littleton.
Rev. David Little will conduct graveside services at 2:00 pm on Sunday, August 30th at Sunset Hill Cemetery in Littleton.
He is survived by his wife that he loved very much, Mary Hale Kearney; his children, James J. “Jimmy” Kearney III and wife, Laura Burrows Kearney, and Lynne Kearney Skilton and husband, Jim; his brother, Charles Jordan Kearney; his grandchildren, Allan Jordan Kearney and wife, Mary Beth, Emily Kearney Pulliam and husband, Nick, and Morgan Skilton Barnes and husband, Eric; and three great grandchildren, Adelyn Kearney, Bree Barnes and Bennett Pulliam.
The family asks that any memorials be directed to the Littleton Baptist Church.
