Betty Neely Howard, 91, of Raleigh, NC, went peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior, holding her daughter’s hand, Sunday morning, June 10, 2018. Born in Hamlet, NC as the only daughter of James L “Roy” and Myrtle R Neely, she is preceded in death by her husband, Harry S. Howard of 50 years from Raleigh, NC and daughter Marci Howard of Greensboro, NC. She is also preceded in death by both her parents, 2 older brothers and their wives, Emerson and “Honey” Neely and Kilford and Doris Neely. Mrs. Howard is survived by her daughter Lisa Howard-Zehia, son-in-law Michael D Zehia, “Punk’s” grandchildren Mikalah Zehia of Lake Gaston, NC and Lucas Zehia of Raleigh, NC, a sister-in-law, Marianne Howard of Bath, NC. Also surviving are an extended family of nieces, nephews, great, and great-great nieces and nephews, with whom she maintained close and loving relationships her entire life.

Mrs. Howard spent her active working years contributing to the education and support of children, assisting her husband in various school systems throughout his career. She also became a certified EMT in her later years. As an active member of her churches over the years, Mrs. Howard sang with, directed, and accompanied the choirs as the organist. She continued to express her love of music in similar roles, singing with several choral groups, including The Lakeland Singers and The Gastonettes, performing many holiday and religious public programs for the joy of their communities.

A life well lived of 91 years cements lasting, loving bonds with family and friends, with whom Betty Howard shared her music, her sense of humor, and her heart. She will be missed, and loved, always.

Memorial services will be held June 23, 2018 at 1 pm at Calvary United Methodist Church in Littleton, NC. Family and friends are welcomed to gather at the fellowship hall following the service.
