The Annual American Veterans Tribute, concert and fireworks at Lake Gaston on Pea Hill Creek in Gasburg has been canceled for 2020 due to COVID-19.

Show organizers say that because of the concerns with keeping the state’s required social distancing at the event, they would have to call off the show this year.

“Even if the state was to enter Phase 3 for reopening before July 4th, it would still set a limit of 250 people at social gatherings,” said organizer Ron Vassar. “We have thousands of people come by land and water to the event and it would be impossible to meet that limit.  After consulting with Sheriff (B.K.) Roberts, we decided that we would have to cancel this year’s tribute show and fireworks.”

While the event won’t be happening this year, Vassar says that the event will return to celebrate the Fourth of July in 2021.

The American Veterans Tribute is a nonprofit focused on honoring veterans and is dedicated to working with veterans and their families who are dealing with the effects of post-traumatic stress. They also work to educate employers on hiring veterans. The annual Fourth of July event is another way for the organization to honor and bring attention to the needs of veterans.
