The Greater Littleton Development Partnership (GLDP) held their monthly business meeting Tuesday, June 19, at Littleton’s Town Hall. The main focus of this month’s meeting was continued discussion on the upgrades and improvements in the area of the parking lot in the center of town.

The group applied for, and received, a grant that would be used for repaving the parking lot, as well as making some landscaping improvements. Included in these improvements is a permanent stage that will be used for events, including the Littleton-Lake Gaston Festival. Group leaders said the area for the stage has been cut in the asphalt, and once that area is cleared, plans are for the stage foundation to be poured and the lot to be paved. Members expressed their hopes all of this can take place around the end of the June.

Other work in the parking lot will involve moving the flower bed along North Main Street further inward to allow for more parking places to be created on the street side. This will add to the parking already available in the parking lot.

Leaders said there are also plans for the addition of a stop sign at the intersection of North Main and Church Streets directly beside Littleton Hardware. This intersection will then become a three-way stop and will allow more visibility for traffic traveling on both streets at this intersection.

The Greater Littleton Development Partnership was established in 2017 to help coordinate the community with the Town Board of Commissioners to help grow the community through marketing, promotion and event creation. They have applied for and received their non-profit status. The group is made up of business owners and private citizens from the town and surrounding area who wish to see growth in the community. They hold work sessions on the first Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. at the Littleton Library. Business meetings are held the third Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at Littleton’s Town Hall.

This group is in place to allow the community as a whole to have a voice. All area citizens, business owners, organization and association members, and church leaders are invited and encouraged to attend these meetings. The group can be contacted via their email at littletondevelopment@gmail.com. They also have a Facebook group page where all group information is shared.
