Vidant Health has announced a new name for Halifax Regional, now Vidant North Hospital.

The hospital, located in Roanoke Rapids, joined the Vidant system of care last summer and is now one of nine Vidant hospitals committed to delivering quality care and a great experience for rural communities.

“Vidant is a system of care focused on providing high quality care and the best possible experience for those we serve,” said Dr. Michael Waldrum, chief executive officer of Vidant Health. “We are here to invest in health care for the community. We are doing this by hiring providers, adding new services to support cancer and stroke care and construction is underway to renovate cancer care facilities. We understand the challenges of delivering rural health care and we know how to get it right.”

The vision for Vidant North Hospital is to be a premier provider for specialty and urgent care for the northern region of Vidant’s service area. Vidant is and will continue to invest in technology, facilities and importantly, the right team to deliver health care for the county and the surrounding communities.

“It’s been a great few months transitioning Halifax Regional into the Vidant system of care,” said Will Mahone, president, Vidant North Hospital. “Vidant understands the unique challenges of delivering healthcare in rural North Carolina and now, with Vidant North Hospital more fully aligned with the mission and vision and integrated with the system of care, we will continue to expand access to care and resources for this great community.”

Vidant North Hospital and nearby Vidant practices are important partners in a network of care that spans eastern North Carolina. Vidant strives to keep care close to home, and when needed, patients have access to a Level I Trauma and academic medical center in Greenville.

Vidant recently added EastCare services, both ground and air, at the hospital to ensure patients get the right care they need, when they need it. Vidant also offers a virtual care option to make it convenient for patients needing access to a provider in their home, at work or even while on vacation.

Vidant is able to fulfill its mission because of the compassion and commitment of its team members who dedicate themselves each day to caring for their family, friends and neighbors throughout eastern North Carolina.
