A nearly 200-foot cell phone tower to be constructed at the intersection of Rachel Road and Highway 903 in the Lake Gaston area is expected to bring better service for local AT&T customers.
Ken Krulik, Warren County Planning and Zoning administrator, said that the Warren County Board of Adjustment has approved the conditional use permit application for the project, and the zoning and building permit application process is underway.
While AT&T will be the primary carrier on the new tower, three co-location points will allow other carriers to utilize the structure for their services as well, he added.
Krulik said that at least nine people have contacted the Planning and Zoning office to express their support for the tower project, which is expected to improve cell phone service especially for AT&T customers in the northern part of the county.
He noted that American Tower, which is handling the construction at Lake Gaston, is seeking additional sites in Warren County.
As part of this process, three additional towers could be constructed, including two in the southern part of the county.
Construction on the tower at Lake Gaston could be completed as early as the end of the year.
