The Ladies of the Lake Cancer Support Team is hosting a Bunco on Tuesday, March 3 starting at 7 p.m. at the Gasburg Rescue Squad building on Gasburg Road in Va. to benefit Harrison West and the West family.
West, now 17, lives with Ewing’s Sarcoma, an extremely rare form of bone cancer found in less than one thousand people a year. West was diagnosed with Ewing sarcoma in 2015 and started receiving chemo shortly after his thirteenth birthday in 2016. After receiving chemo every three weeks, followed by surgery, and then more chemo, West was considered to be in remission from late summer 2016 to early summer 2017. After regular scans, cancer was again found on West’s foot, chest, and skull. He has been receiving chemo every three weeks since August 2017.
West is scheduled to have chemo five days a week for next week. He will then go for a scan the second week of March. Sadly he has not been in school since Dec. 18 as he had radiation five days a week all through January. His mother Carol West says he is doing pretty good considering all things.
The Ladies of the Lake first helped west when he was thirteen years old and recently has given seventeen year old Harrison West $500.00 to help in a small way with any needs he may have.
His classmates are also doing a lunch bag fundraiser for him on Feb. 21 st at the ProBuild in Roanoke Rapids. This will be a pork sandwich, coleslaw, pasta salad and a dessert for $8.00.
