November second is gearing up to be more active than usual around Lake Gaston as stores, churches, and organizations open their doors for the Holiday Open House, yard sales, craft shows, and bazaars.

10th annual Fall Bazaar

Most of the locations holding events are along Eatons Ferry, Lizard Creek, and River roads, but the St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church Fall Bazaar and chili cook-off is a must see.

The chili cook-off is a no-holds-barred, almost anything goes competition. Taster tickets are $5, and expect to try around 15 different kinds of chili prepared by members of the parish and the local community. The contest runs from 10 a.m.-1 p.m., and the Bazaar itself will be in full swing between 9 a.m.-2 p.m.

The Bazaar, at 31 Ebony Rd., Ebony, Va., also features indoor and outdoor vendors, a silent auction, yard sale, bake sale, and door prizes. Proceeds benefit St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church.

Quilts for vets

Sherry’s Sew What? is hosting a Fundraiser for Patriotic Quilts for Veterans sponsored by Sew Blessed and the American Legion Auxiliary at 789 Lizard Creek Rd., Henrico, N.C.

Sew Blessed is an unaffiliated group of quilters that gets together at Sherry’s Sew What? every Thursday and makes quilts that are donated to the Durham VA Hospice Unit.

Visitors can come in to shop for sewing and quilting supplies, and proceeds of the sale go into the fabric and batting of the quilts that are donated. Guests without the nimble fingers of a quilter can also stop in and make a donation towards their cause.

Fall and Christmas Yard Sale

Down the road from Sherry’s Sew What?, the Roanoke-Wildwood Volunteer Fire Department at the corner of Lizard Creek and Quail Ridge roads, is holding its Fall and Christmas Yard Sale, rain or shine, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. The RWVFD is featuring “treasures” and lots of Christmas finds from household items and furniture to children’s toys. Proceeds will benefit the fire department.

Tasty treats

The Lakeside Lutheran Church Women of ELCA is hosting a bake sale at Wildwood Nursery and Garden Center at 847 Lizard Creek Rd., Henrico, N.C. starting at 9 a.m. The sale is sponsored by Sarah Circle, a community of lakeside women who gather for fellowship and to learn discipleship and stewardship through Bible study and prayer. Proceeds from the bake sale will benefit a local family in need.

Arts and crafts

Lake Gaston Baptist Church is hosting the 2019 Adventurers Arts and Crafts Fair at the Family Center and Social Hall at 128 Lynwood Rd., Littleton, N.C. from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. The arts and craft fair features over 61 vendors with handmade arts and crafts from acrylic and oil paintings to woodwork and more.

The Adventurers of Lake Gaston Baptist Church, an adult Christian outreach group that is made up of members from the host church and other surrounding churches, organizes the arts and craft show that has been held for over 15 years. Proceeds from the event will go to Christian-based organizations like Samaritan’s Purse and the John 3:16 Center.

Stewing the pot

The Lake Gaston Foundation is hosting its sixth annual Brunswick Stew Sale at the Lake Gaston Regional Chamber of Commerce office at 2357 Eaton Ferry Rd., Littleton, N.C. Stew will be ready for pick-up from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. and is $8 a quart. The stew is made by award-winning stew team of Rodney Elmore and the Proclamation Stew Crew. Proceeds from the sale will tentatively be used for scholarships for local kids. Call ahead to reserve an order at 252-586-5711.
